I thought this holiday season, it might be nice to go back and look at some older stories most of which were written before Evan's first name was known. Back then, the slash community used Nick as the fanonical first name for Lorne while the het community prefered Marcus; some fans, of course, just did their own thing and some didn't use a first name at all.
On day 1
partofthequeue2 mentioned
miss_porcupine's military SF, and I thought I'd start with one of her early novellas, The Jenny Code, which comes with warnings for torture and violence, and friendship over romance. The story is told from the points-of-view of Lorne, Weir, and Caldwell as they react to the discovery that Sheppard and his marine escort were captured by the Genii. In that sense, it's a military procedural, stepping through the chain-of-command reaction, and it's pretty intense. The story is long, dark, plotty, and very gen; it's also a really good read.
After that, you'll need something a little lighter, so may I suggest A Shopping Cart Filled With Cans by
minervacat, which is just plain fun. Lorne's voice is hysterical in this, and the poor guy keeps getting deeper and deeper in trouble, no matter how good his intentions.
Another genre of story I enjoy is simple UST story that grey area between gen and het or gen and slash. That's Amore by
alyse is a Lorne/Zelenka story that is filled with romance. The two of them are alone in a garden of a deserted planet, with two moons circling above them, making the place seem more truly alien than most worlds that Lorne has visited so far, and the relationship he has developed with Zelenka seems suddenly rife with possibilities.
Flint and Steel by
kageygirl is a Lorne/Teyla story that also brings the UST to the table, but no so much the romance. Teyla merely instructs Lorne in stick-fighting, and there is something very hot in Teyla taking Lorne down.
As a Hurt/comfort fan, I want to recommend a Lorne/Parrish story, The Least Cool by
skoosiepants which starts out very light and fun, but quickly descends into something much starker and more intense. Poor Lorne.
Taking a step to the left on the sexual resolution ladder,The Homecoming King by
zeplum is a Lorne/Weir story that also makes good use of Lorne's sense of humor. It's very short, but it builds a nice relationship between the two of them, and gives Lorne a little chance to be playful.
Lorne's position as an outsider is also put to good use in Unusual Gravitation: Five Kisses Lorne Saw by
mirabile_dictu. It's a five things character study that focuses on several different kisses and Lorne's reactions to them, and what he makes of the relationships between Bill Lee/Daniel Jackson, Jack/Daniel, Ronon/Teyla, and McKay/Sheppard, not to mention the one between himself and Elizabeth Weir.
At last we get to full-on sexual tension resolution. Stage Fright by
lamardeuse is a novella where Lorne is a porn star, and Parrish is new to the business. It's a very sweet romance, with really hot sex, and it just doesn't get better than that.
And finally, here's a little kink to round out your day. Both stories are written by
casspeach, who writes some incendiary smut, whether she's writing het or slash. Scarlet Woman is a very short PWP, a cross-dressing story, where Lorne gets dared by Cadman to wear one of her dresses, and she really likes the result. Meanwhile, Still Life with Rope is one of the chain of command series, which is a great D/s series involving Sheppard, McKay, Dex and Lorne. This one is Sheppard/Lorne, with John trying out his rope bondage technique. Which is, as I said, really quite hot.
There you go! Ten older Lorne stories for the holiday season. I tried to mix it up a bit with het, gen, and slash offerings, not to mention humor, plot, and great sex. I hope everyone can find something to enjoy.
