and what, after all, is darker than the guy standing next to you, who likes hotdogs and beer and mows his sister's lawns on weekends and wears the uniform and has done what is necessary in the line of duty without anyone ever seeing what it takes sometimes? It's the happygolucky soldiers who seem to have it all together that worry me the most.

I'll admit to probably reading too much into the character, but I compare him to people I have known from the services, Seals and Recon, and the people he matches up to are the ones who have incredible moral courage, but also the ability to have completed jobs that would have destroyed any of the rest of us.
