There's something far less creepy about some one who just maintains/survives with deadpan/dry humor than fake cheery? Although I'm biased, because happy-go-lucky people in general irritate me.

And Sheppard, for all that he irritates the hell out of me sometimes. Sheppard seems darker to me. I don' tknow if that's purely a function of how much he's seen/done beyond used-to-be-a-surveyor!Lorne, or something more innate. He certainly has more issues. Because with Lorne, I sense most of his darkness coming from experience, not within. Sheppard is a more ambiguous figure for me.
