Oct 7 - 21st Space Shuttle Mission Atlantis 1 lands at Edwards AFB: write a drabble/ficlet about Lorne and his lover arriving/meeting in Atlantis. Single word prompt: missionary

Title: A Path Not Taken

Summary: A discussion of one of Lorne's considered careers

Notes: It's a drabble, if I say anything about it the header will be longer than the story.

“You almost became a what?” Rodney asked, incredulous.

“A priest, Rodney.” Lorne didn't smile but his dimples may have deepened just a bit. “I was seventeen,” he explained. “I was very devout, came from a deeply Irish Catholic upbringing.”

“So what changed your mind?”

“You mean, aside from the whole 'gay' and 'can't handle celibacy' things?” Lorne asked with a pointed eyebrow lift.

Rodney made an impatient gesture. “Yes, of course, aside from those things.”

Lorne shrugged, giving it a moments thought. “Being gay was about it.”

“So, wait.” Rodney's eyes glittered a little. “Can you talk dirty in Latin?”

Thank you so much!! I wasn'g 'getting' anything for arrival or the space trip but 'missionary' got me going *snicker*

Stormy threw me off as well, hence the wall - easier but took longer than any of the fics have so far.

And thank you! Fear not, they aren't *all* Lorne/McKay ... some are Lorne/Zelenka!

Ah ha ha... More Rodney/Lorne for the world. It is such an awesome thing. Oh Lorne as a priest... that inspires many a dirty thought. Seriously though I'm really inspried and I think I might actually have to go to chruch tomorrow because of it (Catholic, though not at all Irish). I can so see the whole being gay thing being a probably. Funny though that he joined the Air Force where it's almost as much of a problem, but not quite.

Oh and Rodney, getting right to the important stuff. *fangirls all over this*

For me it was a matter of less hypocracy. Plus, the author, who is teased about her fixation with it totally spaced on DADT. Ironic though that now the catholic priesthood allows gay priests but the military still won't allow openly gay members.

And yes, Rodney does get right down to business *giggle*

Ha, I don't know. From my congregation it would seem that the man thing is remaining celibate and they've got their own Don't Ask Don't Tell thing when it comes to actually preference, but then that's negated by the fact that technically sexual perference doesn't really exist because you know devoted to God.

Or maybe I'm just from a looser chruch.

But seriously I'm almost inspired to write some angsty Lorne really did become a priest and then Rodney came along... what they do it in McShep!
