Between toe surgery and vicodin, I've blown the deadline for this prompt. Here's an excerpt from my response(3000 words and counting, YAY!!!) which I hope to get posted in full tomorrow.

Daniel, Lorne/flirting, pre-slash PG-13

....

Daniel squatted to get a better look at the opening. It was roughly triangular in shape and definitely manmade. The upper two legs of the triangle were etched with what he was pretty sure was a derivative of Ancient Latin but nothing he’d seen before.

“That stuff’s all Greek to me,” Lorne offered, his voice at Daniel’s ear.

Lorne stooped quickly to scoop the camera up as it tumbled to the sandy floor of the temple, brushing it grains of sand away from it carefully.

“Sorry, Doc, I didn’t realize you were so jumpy,” he apologized, handing it back.

“Why does everyone in the military feel the need to sneak everywhere they go?” Daniel grumped, looking up at Lorne.

“Colonel O’Neill pop in on you a lot, does he?”

“Him, Teal’c – “

“Carter?” Lorne prompted.

“Some things aren’t as unpleasant as others,” Daniel baited.

"Now, Doc, that is a whole level of 'red light' that I won't be getting into," Lorne demurred.

Daniel made several seconds of video tape of the markings before stretching out on the ground at the entrance of the opening. Flipping on the night vision feature, he extended the camera into the chamber beyond and panned it around blindly. Drawing it back, he hit rewind and viewed the footage, holding it up for Lorne to see the overly dark interior as well.

“Not much to look at,” Lorne commented.

Murky images blended into the darkness. Daniel squinted at the screen, then at the entrance, then up at Lorne.

“Do you have a flashlight?”

Lorne pulled a small Maglite from his vest and handed it down.

“Thanks.”

Daniel switched the flashlight on and aimed it into the chamber awkwardly, the bulk of his shoulders not leaving a lot of maneuvering room in his cramped position.

“Dammit,” he muttered.

“Here - ”

Lorne dropped to the sand beside him, stretching out as well as close to the wall as he could. Taking the flashlight, he unscrewed the sheath, allowing the light to act as a small lamp. He held it inside the chamber, freeing Daniel to film inside. The video came back marginally better, leaving them able to make out images on the walls and an array of indistinct objects piled in one corner.

“What do you think?” Lorne asked.

“It’s larger than I would have thought. Probably not Go’a’uld.”

“Probably not?”

He backed the tape up to a spot and paused it.

“This writing is more similar to Ancient, and Go’a’uld burials chambers tend to be more elaborate and centralized. I think it’s worth checking out. If nothing else, for better documentation, I can get some footage to take back to the SGC for analysis.”

Lorne grinned. “You know, Doc, you and that camera are pretty tight. Do you videotape everything?

Daniel glanced back down the length of his body to where he and Lorne lay belly down side by side.

"Only the really good stuff." Daniel left the suggestive comment hanging as he wiggled forward into the undercroft.

“Whoa, there, Doc,” Lorne said, putting a restraining hand on Daniel’s shoulder. “Targets first.”

“Targets?”

“Yeah, you know, the guys with the vests who go first to draw fire?”

“Guess I never thought of it that way.”

“Don’t worry, Doc, I’m not planning on getting shot.”

“Plans don’t always go as planned…”

“No way," Lorne protested. "Not my plans.” Seeing the concerned look on Daniel’s face, Lorne added: “Doc, two seconds ago you were all for barreling in there without a second thought. Nothing’s changed. Besides, I am way too pretty to get shot!”

"Well," Daniel leveled dryly, "there is that."

Lorne levered his torso into the entry, wedging his shoulders in far enough to shine the flashlight around. He wiggled the rest of his body through the hole, allowing himself to drop the three feet into the chamber and roll to a standing position, P-90 poised and alert. He moved around the room quickly, checking the corners before returning to the opening.

“Well?” Daniel prompted impatiently.

Lorne crouched so that Daniel could see him and shrugged in the limited light.

“I didn’t get shot.”

“Right, I guess I underestimated how pretty you were, silly of me to worry.”

Daniel retrieved his pack and handed it through, following it head first as Lorne had.
