Stay with me here - it's a little long. I propose a daily challenge for October. Write a drabble or ficlet for the following daily prompts. Each day has three prompts: an event prompt, a plot prompt and a single word prompt, it's your choice, pick one, two or all three. Play as often or as little as you want - write every day or pick and choose.

I am willing to offer an incentive to anyone finishing all 31 prompts. I'm not sure what that incentive is at this point....but I'll come up with something.

To help out, I'm posting all 31 prompts up front and then I'll post them daily as well. Write a 100 words, write a 1000 - no limits, no rules. Porn is always welcome and even preferred.

Without further delay - the 31 Prompts of October!

I just want to say this is a great idea. I've been completely uninspired lately but with all these great prompts hopefully I can come up with something.

I like these prompts and they're helping me decide if I can/want to write fic. :D

One question with the one word prompts - does one have to use the actual word prompt in the story?

So I'm an idiot and forgot to sign in. >_< That was me.

Thank you! I'm trying, we'll see if I can get anything coherent out. :D

And one more question. Do these stories have to be posted the day of? I'm assuming they should be posted the day of the prompt, but I thought I'd double check.

Twofold question ...

Can we post ahead? Or save and post it the day of or after the prompt?

Just how connected to Lorne and his man have to be to qualify? I've made a manip that *sort* of fits tomorrow's prompt ...

http://iocane.livejournal.com/55139.html#cutid1

Not sure if it would fit or not - if it fits I'll post a link at the comm tomorrow. :)

That's cool for me - I'll save off posting the magazine cover till tomorrow then. :)

When I thought about it the waiting thing was obvious but thank you for answering anyhow. :)

A lovely set of challenges there. I've actually used one to write a little fic. I feel kind of guilty about not posting it here but to keep my flist at a friendly level, I've had to limit my SGA comms to McKay related ones (I may have a slight obsession in that area). I currently have this comm bookmarked and check in periodically and review/comment on newer postings.

If I do write any other, I could join up temporarily and share, but I wouldn't want to do that without permission.

YAY! for the prompt love!!

If you don't want to join (and given the radical number of comms I have, believe me I understand), perhaps you could just post me a link to any that you write and I could include you in a monthly or weekly wrap up post?

Just an option....

These are the only 3 fan fics I've ever written and posted (the middle one, I should warn you is unbetaed). There is a 4th fic, but I've done nothing with it to date. They are all McKay/Lorne, so your community might be interested in all of them but only the first one relates to the Oct challenge, the Oct 9 Thanksgiving prompt. They are at:

http://lazigyrl.livejournal.com/15197.html
Name: An Invitation to Thanksgiving

http://lazigyrl.livejournal.com/14878.html
Name: It Happened One October 11th

http://lazigyrl.livejournal.com/13559.html
Name: William Shakespeare's in my cat*

I am planning at least two more on the Oct challenge and will pass them along at the end of the month. One is the Halloween prompt and the other National Grouch Day, you would think with a McKay obsession it would be a cinch, but at alas... I don't think I'd have it done in time for the actual prompt date.

An excellent plan. Takes for understanding about keeping the comm numbers down.

I was up over 100 at one point and I am sure I was missing more than I was seeing.

If I keep writing McKay/Lorne fics I may eventually join. As a general rule I'd rather share with small communities/lists around characters/couples rather than the larger ones. Just writing this couple is been a bit of a surprise. As much as I love the character Lorne, he's always been a secondary character in stories (I was McShep all the way), but the two of them have taken over my head.

Ah, yeah. I kind of wrote another one (or possibly a first chapter of one) while I was waiting for my car at the dealership. I'm blaming it on an image I got at the "juicy" prompt, which isn't even on my to-do list. They are consuming my brain this month. Your prompts are partially to blame.

BTW, I've been a die hard David Hewlett fan from way before SGA.

Well I said that if I wrote anymore stories from you Oct prompts I'd let you know, so here you go. I got three stories from two prompts, since one seems to have spawned a sequel. I need to learn to come up with titles.

Prompt: Oct 20th: juicy
Name: Tale of Two Pinheads @ http://lazigyrl.livejournal.com/15920.html
Sequel:The Tale Continues... @ http://lazigyrl.livejournal.com/17058.html
Rating: PG

Prompt: Oct 31th: mask
Name: This Was Suppose to be a Halloween Story, Really! @ http://lazigyrl.livejournal.com/17767.html
Rating: NC-17

FYI I changed the name of the Halloween fic: Confession of a Mask. It's not a great name, but at least it's a real one this time.
